Authorities and family members are searching for a mother and her 1-year-old son who disappeared in Reading City, Pennsylvania, more than a week ago.
Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, 30, and her son, Jeyden Peguero, were last seen around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, in the vicinity of North 5th Street, according to a missing endangered person advisory issued by the Reading City Police Department. Police have described both as “endangered” and warned that they “may be at special risk of harm or injury.”
The circumstances of their disappearance remain unclear. Family members realized something was wrong when Geraldina stopped responding to messages, prompting urgent concern.
Heinel Miguel Medrano, Geraldina’s cousin, told local outlet WFMZ-TV that the family last spoke with her approximately four hours before she went missing. He described the disappearance as “completely out of character” for Geraldina.
“We are very sad. Her mom is really devastated, she cannot even speak,” Medrano said. “We are always in conversation with each other. That’s how we realized that something was going on, because we just realized the same day on Friday that she was not responding to any of the messages.”
The City of Reading Police Department has not immediately responded to requests for comment.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo and her son, Jeyden, to come forward to assist in the ongoing search.
