Woman Left Limbless After Devastating Pit Bull Attack During Evening Bike Ride in Oklahoma
A woman from Okmulgee, Oklahoma, is fighting for her life after suffering catastrophic injuries in a pit bull attack that resulted in the surgical removal of her limbs. Authorities say further surgeries may be required as she continues her recovery.
Janelle Scott was reportedly riding her bicycle with her boyfriend on the evening of September 9, around 11 p.m., when the terrifying encounter occurred. The couple was en route to a friend’s home when two pit bulls belonging to their friend escaped and launched a violent attack. Scott’s boyfriend, initially unable to intervene due to distance, managed to fatally stop one of the dogs when it attacked him, according to KOTV in Tulsa.
The aftermath has left Scott’s family reeling. Her mother, Cheryl Scott, described the emotional toll of seeing her daughter in such a critical condition. “I have to encourage her, and then I have to take a break outside and do my crying. I try not to cry in front of her, I don’t want her to see me like this,” she said, asking the public for prayers and support during this unimaginably difficult time.
Officials have not disclosed whether any legal action has been taken against the dog owner, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack is ongoing.
The community has rallied around the Scott family, sharing messages of hope and solidarity as Janelle faces the long and uncertain road ahead.
Woman Left Limbless After Pit Bull Attack Near Homeless Camp in Oklahoma
OKMULGEE, OK — A woman from Okmulgee, Oklahoma, is facing a life-altering recovery after a brutal pit bull attack left her without all four limbs. Authorities say the incident occurred near a homeless encampment where the dogs’ owner lives in a trailer, and further surgeries may still be required.
Janelle Scott, 26, was riding her bicycle with her boyfriend on the night of September 9 when the two pit bulls attacked. “Where the friend lives, you have to go through a wooded area to get up there. I guess he lives in a camper or something. So she was going up that way when the dogs came out and attacked her, and she knew the dogs and they knew her,” Cheryl Scott, Janelle’s mother, told KOKI-TV.
Reports indicate the dogs may have escaped after the owner’s trailer was broken into earlier that evening. Police responded quickly, but by the time they arrived, Scott had sustained catastrophic injuries. “After seeing her arm after the attack, she knew she was going to lose her right arm because she said when she looked down, she could see the bone, and it was just barely hanging on by tendons and stuff,” Cheryl said.
Scott was airlifted to Tulsa St. Frances Hospital, where surgeons initially amputated her right arm and leg. Tragically, her injuries necessitated the removal of her left arm and leg as well. “That was hard for her because she was left-handed, so she thought she’s gonna get to keep her left arm,” her mother explained. Scott is scheduled for additional surgery to prepare her remaining muscles for prosthetic use, with Cheryl praying for her daughter’s strength.
The family has turned to the community for support through a GoFundMe campaign. “I pray that her body has the strength for more surgery. So could you all PLEASE keep her in your prayers? I’m a true believer in how powerful prayers are. Thank you!” Cheryl wrote.
At the time of the attack, the owner of the pit bulls was reportedly in jail. The individual left in charge of the dogs has since been issued a citation related to the incident.
Scott’s story has shocked the community, highlighting the dangers of unsecured animals and the devastating consequences of such attacks.
