Ohio State Student Found Dead Inside Football Stadium at 19

Columbus, OH — Ohio State University is mourning the sudden death of 19-year-old student William Meyers, who was found deceased inside the school’s football stadium on the morning of Friday, September 26.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, emergency responders from the Columbus Division of Fire arrived at the scene at 9:56 a.m. local time following a call reporting an incident at the stadium. The university later confirmed Meyers’ passing, describing it as a “fatality at the stadium” and noting that foul play is not suspected. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the campus community.

“At this time, foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” the university stated. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Counseling and Consultation Services are available for students in need of support by calling 614-292-5766.”

Meyers’ cause of death has not yet been publicly released. Efforts to reach the Ohio State University Police and the Columbus Division of Fire for additional comment as of Sunday, September 28, were not immediately successful.

A Fairfield, Connecticut native, Meyers was a third-year accounting student at Ohio State. His LinkedIn profile indicates that he co-founded a charity with his older brother that collected and donated used and unused sports equipment to local centers, reflecting his commitment to community service.

The tragedy comes nearly a year after another fatal incident at Ohio State’s football stadium. In May 2024, Larissa Brady, 53, died by suicide during the university’s spring commencement ceremony after falling from the stands. Brady had been attending her daughter’s graduation, according to NPR.

The university’s statement and ongoing investigations underscore the importance of mental health resources for students. Anyone experiencing emotional distress, mental health challenges, or substance use problems is encouraged to seek help. Support is available 24/7 by calling or texting 988, or through the online chat at 988lifeline.org.
