Columbus, OH — Ohio State University is mourning the sudden death of 19-year-old student William Meyers, who was found deceased inside the school’s football stadium on the morning of Friday, September 26.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, emergency responders from the Columbus Division of Fire arrived at the scene at 9:56 a.m. local time following a call reporting an incident at the stadium. The university later confirmed Meyers’ passing, describing it as a “fatality at the stadium” and noting that foul play is not suspected. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the campus community. “At this time, foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” the university stated. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

A Fairfield, Connecticut native, Meyers was a third-year accounting student at Ohio State. His LinkedIn profile indicates that he co-founded a charity with his older brother that collected and donated used and unused sports equipment to local centers, reflecting his commitment to community service. The tragedy comes nearly a year after another fatal incident at Ohio State’s football stadium.
In May 2024, Larissa Brady, 53, died by suicide during the university’s spring commencement ceremony after falling from the stands.
