Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic congresswoman from Dallas, has announced she is “strongly considering” a bid for the U.S. Senate in Texas. In an interview on SiriusXM’s The Lurie Daniel Favors Show, she framed her potential campaign as a form of political “karma” in response to Republican-led redistricting efforts that she believes have diluted the power of minority voters. She stated, “If you want to take my seat of 766,000 away, I feel like there has to be some karma in that to where I take your seat that is for 30 million away.”
Crockett emphasized the importance of expanding the electorate in Texas, suggesting that winning the Senate race would require mobilizing demographics that typically have lower voter turnout. She noted, “The question will be whether or not we believe that we’ve got enough juice to expand the electorate and looking at those cross tabs and looking at which demographics are more inclined to come out, who normally do not vote.”
If she decides to enter the race, Crockett would join a Democratic primary that already includes former Rep. Colin Allred and state Rep. James Talarico. A recent poll indicated that Crockett leads the Democratic field with 31% support, ahead of Talarico and Allred, who each have 25%, and significantly ahead of Beto O’Rourke, who is tied with Talarico.

On the Republican side, incumbent Senator John Cornyn is facing primary challenges from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt. Crockett’s potential candidacy could energize progressive voters but may also raise concerns among Democratic strategists about her ability to win a statewide general election. Her past comments, including referring to Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels,” have drawn criticism and could complicate her campaign messaging in a competitive statewide race.

Crockett has not yet announced her official candidacy, but her remarks suggest she is seriously weighing a run for the Senate seat in 2026.
