On October 6 2025, authorities in Harvard, Illinois discovered the bodies of Rachel Dumovich (29) and Brandon Dumovich (30), a newly-married couple from Sharon, Wisconsin. Their car was parked with its hazard lights on near Route 14 at Division/Burbank Street when a police officer stopped to assist. Both had sustained gunshot wounds, and a firearm was recovered inside the vehicle. Police have stated that the incident appears isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Rachel and Brandon’s relationship dated back to middle school, when they first met at age 12. They remained friends for around 15 years before beginning to date in 2022, and were married on October 12 2024. They shared interests in travel, outdoor adventures, and time with their dogs. Rachel worked in human resources and was remembered for her empathy and humor, while Brandon was a U.S. Navy veteran admired for his dedication and kindness.
At this stage, investigators have not publicly ruled out scenarios such as a homicide or murder-suicide. The McHenry County Major Investigative Assistance Team (MIAT) has been activated to assist with the forensic investigation. As of now, the full autopsy and toxicology results are pending, and authorities continue to ask anyone with information to contact the Harvard Police Department.
