From Love Story to Timeless Star: Ali MacGraw Shines at 85

Ali MacGraw’s life has been defined by brilliance, resilience, and transformation. Once one of Hollywood’s most celebrated stars, she chose to step away from fame to embrace a simpler and more meaningful path. Now 84, she lives quietly in a small town near Santa Fe, New Mexico, focusing on advocacy, wellness, and family.

Born Elizabeth Alice MacGraw in 1939, she was raised in modest circumstances by artist parents whose struggles shaped her outlook. After graduating from Wellesley College, she began her career in fashion, working as an assistant at Harper’s Bazaar before moving into modeling.

Her striking beauty soon opened the door to acting, and she quickly found success. MacGraw’s breakthrough came with Goodbye, Columbus (1969), followed by her unforgettable role in Love Story (1970), which earned her both an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe.

At the height of her fame, she became a symbol of Hollywood glamour. Yet her personal life often drew as much attention as her career, with high-profile marriages to producer Robert Evans and actor Steve McQueen shaping public perception of her.

By the late 1970s, MacGraw stepped away from acting. She later sought help for addiction, finding new strength and purpose through recovery. In 1993, after a wildfire destroyed her California home, she relocated to New Mexico, where she built a new chapter of her life.

There, she embraced yoga, animal rights, and community involvement, channeling her energy into causes that mattered deeply to her. These pursuits reflected a desire for substance over spectacle.

Despite retiring from Hollywood, MacGraw remains admired as a cultural icon of grace and resilience. She shares a close bond with her son, actor-director Josh Evans, and takes joy in her role as a grandmother.

Her journey stands as a testament to reinvention and inner strength, reminding the world that true beauty and success come from authenticity and purpose.

Smartphones have become indispensable tools in our daily lives, offering a multitude of functions beyond basic communication. However, many users are unaware of the hidden features and shortcuts that can enhance their smartphone experience. One simple yet effective trick is silencing an incoming call without rejecting it. Instead of fumbling to find the right button, a quick press of the volume down button can instantly mute the ringtone and notifications, allowing you to handle the situation discreetly. Capturing fleeting moments is another area where smartphones excel. On iPhones, swiping left from the lock screen opens the camera app without the need to unlock the device. Android users can achieve the same by double-pressing the power button, ensuring you never miss a spontaneous photo opportunity. Widgets have evolved from simple information displays to powerful tools that can streamline smartphone usage. Placing widgets on the home screen provides instant access to essential apps and updates without navigating through multiple menus. Popular options include weather updates, calendar events, health stats, and email previews. Extended screen time can lead to digital eye strain, causing discomfort and fatigue. Activating dark mode reduces eye strain and saves battery life on OLED screens. Additionally, following the 20-20-20 rule—taking a break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds—can further alleviate strain and keep your vision healthy. Maintaining optimal phone performance is crucial for efficiency. Over time, devices can slow down due to accumulated software updates, app clutter, and excessive data storage. Regularly clearing cache files, restricting background app activity, and managing storage space can prevent lag and ensure smooth operation. By exploring these lesser-known functions, users can unlock their device’s full potential, making it an even more indispensable part of their routine. Whether it’s simplifying tasks, improving productivity, or extending battery life, these features can transform the way you interact with your smartphone.
