Netflix has a new binge-worthy hit that viewers are calling “outrageous” yet “so juicy it hurts.” The Hunting Wives, an eight-part thriller, quickly climbed into the platform’s Top 10 and earned an impressive 80% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series follows Sophie (Brittany Snow), who leaves Boston for a fresh start in the fictional East Texas town of Maple Brook. Soon, she’s drawn into the glamorous but dangerous world of a mysterious socialite and her wealthy circle of friends.
What begins as intrigue quickly turns deadly. When a body is discovered, Sophie realizes she’s in over her head and warned she has “no idea what these people are capable of.” The show mixes suspense with scandal, offering plenty of twists along the way.
The cast includes Malin Åkerman, Dermot Mulroney, Chrissy Metz, and Katie Lowes, who bring extra star power to the series. Fans have praised the show for its unexpected turns, calling it “mind-blowing” and “10/10.”
Still, not everyone is impressed. Some viewers have criticized the plot as vulgar. One complained, “I couldn’t make it past the first 20 minutes,” citing explicit early scenes that felt over the top.
Despite mixed reactions, creator Rebecca Cutter defends her vision. “It’s so fun, and juicy and sy,” she told the New York Post. “I wanted to explore women behaving badly, unapologetic sual conquest, and just something fun.”
She added that the series reflects real dynamics. “I have single friends [who are] women of a certain age… young men are interested in them. That’s real, and I think it’s cool to show.” Cutter believes modern TV allows space for such provocative storytelling.
Whether loved or loathed, The Hunting Wives has sparked major buzz—and fans are already hoping for a second season. The series is streaming now on Netflix.
