Judge Acts Ahead of Maxwell Grand Jury Record Decision

Judge Seeks More Details Before Ruling on Maxwell Grand Jury Records

A federal judge overseeing the Justice Department’s push to unseal grand jury records from Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal case has asked for more information before making a decision. In a four-page order filed Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer said he intends to rule “expeditiously” but found the DOJ’s motion lacking in detail to meet the legal standard for releasing such sensitive material.

The judge directed the DOJ to file a supplemental brief by July 29. Prosecutors must explain their justification for public release, confirm whether they have reviewed the transcripts, and state if victims were notified before the request was made.

Engelmayer also ordered the DOJ to provide, under seal, an index of all relevant records, the full transcripts, and a proposed redacted version suitable for public disclosure. Other related documents must also be submitted for his review.

Maxwell’s defense team has requested access to the transcripts before formally responding. Attorney David Oscar Markus argued that reviewing the materials is essential to offering a meaningful legal position on whether they should be unsealed.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has indicated he does not oppose allowing the defense access, clearing the way for Maxwell’s team to prepare their response.

The judge further set an August 5 deadline for victims to weigh in on whether the records should be made public. Their perspectives are expected to play a key role in the court’s decision.

The case has drawn renewed attention after President Trump instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release additional Epstein-related files. The directive has sparked political debate, with critics warning of possible politicization of the justice system.

Legal experts note that redacted FBI reports name prominent figures, but stress that mere mention in documents does not imply guilt.

Smartphones have become indispensable tools in our daily lives, offering a multitude of functions beyond basic communication. However, many users are unaware of the hidden features and shortcuts that can enhance their smartphone experience. One simple yet effective trick is silencing an incoming call without rejecting it. Instead of fumbling to find the right button, a quick press of the volume down button can instantly mute the ringtone and notifications, allowing you to handle the situation discreetly. Capturing fleeting moments is another area where smartphones excel. On iPhones, swiping left from the lock screen opens the camera app without the need to unlock the device. Android users can achieve the same by double-pressing the power button, ensuring you never miss a spontaneous photo opportunity. Widgets have evolved from simple information displays to powerful tools that can streamline smartphone usage. Placing widgets on the home screen provides instant access to essential apps and updates without navigating through multiple menus. Popular options include weather updates, calendar events, health stats, and email previews. Extended screen time can lead to digital eye strain, causing discomfort and fatigue. Activating dark mode reduces eye strain and saves battery life on OLED screens. Additionally, following the 20-20-20 rule—taking a break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds—can further alleviate strain and keep your vision healthy. Maintaining optimal phone performance is crucial for efficiency. Over time, devices can slow down due to accumulated software updates, app clutter, and excessive data storage. Regularly clearing cache files, restricting background app activity, and managing storage space can prevent lag and ensure smooth operation. By exploring these lesser-known functions, users can unlock their device’s full potential, making it an even more indispensable part of their routine. Whether it’s simplifying tasks, improving productivity, or extending battery life, these features can transform the way you interact with your smartphone.
