On October 4, 2025, in Angleton, Texas, 31-year-old Oninda Romelus was arrested after allegedly shooting four of her five children, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. Romelus called 911 to report the incident and directed authorities to a gas station. Upon arrival, officers found her pumping gas while two children, aged 13 and 3, were deceased, and two others, aged 8 and 9, were critically injured but later stabilized at a hospital.
During police interrogation, Romelus exhibited signs of paranoia and made incoherent statements, including claiming she had not called 911 but the “devil.” She also stated that her children were “dead to her” and that “you can’t take me without me taking you.” Authorities later discovered evidence of potential identity fraud at her home, including numerous identification cards and blank checks.
Romelus has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She is currently held on a $14 million bond. The surviving children are under the care of Child Protective Services, and investigations into the incident and potential fraud activities are ongoing.
