Oven-Baked Bacon
Baking bacon in the oven is a straightforward method that ensures even cooking and reduces splatter. To begin, preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil to catch drippings and facilitate cleanup. For extra crispiness, place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet and arrange the bacon strips in a single layer on the rack. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the bacon reaches your desired level of crispness. Thicker slices may require a few additional minutes. Once cooked, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat. This method allows the bacon to cook in its own fat, resulting in a crispy texture without the need for flipping.
Microwave Bacon
For smaller portions or a quicker option, microwaving bacon is an effective choice. Place a layer of paper towels on a microwave-safe plate. Arrange the bacon slices in a single layer on the paper towels, ensuring they do not overlap. Cover the bacon with another paper towel to prevent splattering. Microwave on high for 3–5 minutes, checking for desired crispness. Cooking times may vary depending on your microwave’s wattage and the thickness of the bacon. Once done, carefully remove the plate, as it will be hot, and transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any remaining grease.
Both methods offer a convenient way to prepare bacon with minimal mess. The oven method is ideal for cooking larger quantities and achieving uniformly crispy bacon, while the microwave method is suitable for quick preparation of smaller portions. Choose the method that best fits your needs and enjoy delicious bacon with ease.
