Lizzo Opens Up About Her Relationship with Boyfriend Myke Wright
Lizzo is giving fans a rare look into her personal life, sharing heartfelt details about her relationship with boyfriend Myke Wright.
In a cover story for New York Magazine’s Vulture, published Monday, Sept. 8, the 37-year-old singer spoke candidly about her romance with Wright, a comedian and musician. The couple first sparked speculation in October 2021, when they were spotted out together at dinner, fueling rumors of a budding relationship.
A “Friends to Lovers” Story
Lizzo described their connection with humor, suggesting their romance could be straight out of a classic trope.
“It’s a friends-to-lovers trope, or maybe enemies-to-lovers,” she joked.
The Grammy winner went on to explain how much she values Wright’s support and grounded presence.
“I’m really grateful to have someone who’s extremely supportive, who doesn’t ask for s— from me, nor does he need s— from me,” she said. “He pours into me. He takes care of me.”
Balancing Career and Love
Lizzo’s reflections come during a busy year in her career. In June, she released her latest mixtape, My Face Hurts from Smiling, which showcased her evolving artistry and playful energy. Despite the demands of her music career, she emphasized how Wright’s encouragement has strengthened their relationship.
Together, Lizzo and Wright continue to keep much of their relationship private, but her latest comments make clear the deep sense of love, trust, and mutual respect that underpins their bond.
During her recent interview, Lizzo shared a rare personal moment when her boyfriend, Myke Wright, joined her for what she called a “planned guitar session.” The singer strummed through her song Love in Real Life, but her long nails made it tricky to play without stumbling. When she finished, Wright applauded warmly and said with admiration, “There’s that smile.”
Lizzo, who released her mixtape My Face Hurts From Smiling in June, first met Wright years ago in 2016 while they were co-hosting MTV’s music series Wonderland. Their chemistry eventually grew into something more, and by October 2021, the pair sparked relationship rumors after being seen dining together at Crustacean Beverly Hills.
In April 2022, Lizzo confirmed on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy that she was indeed in a relationship, though she didn’t immediately share Wright’s name. That June, the couple took their romance public, appearing together on the red carpet at a For Your Consideration event celebrating her Amazon Prime reality competition show Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.
By November of that same year, Lizzo—whose real name is Melissa Jefferson—opened up even further in a candid Vanity Fair interview, calling Wright “the love of my life.”
“People fight for monogamy like they pray to it every day. I am not a polyamorous person, I’m not in love with multiple partners. That is not me. He’s [Wright] the love of my life. We are life mates,” she explained.
The Truth Hurts singer also spoke openly about her thoughts on marriage, describing her approach as practical rather than traditional.
“Do I want to get married? If I wanted to start a business with him, I’d get married because that’s when your finances come together,” she said.
For Lizzo, the relationship is less about titles or ceremonies and more about the deep bond she shares with Wright—one rooted in love, respect, and unwavering support.
Lizzo has never shied away from expressing how deeply she feels about Wright. Speaking on The Howard Stern Show in December 2022, she gushed openly about their relationship: “I am very much in love with Myke. One hundred percent. There’s nobody else I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”
- Since then, the couple has continued to share milestones together. Most recently, they were spotted making a glamorous appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars Afterparty in March, further cementing their status as one of Hollywood’s most supportive and enduring couples.
