The family of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the teenager whose body was discovered in the trunk of a Tesla reportedly connected to singer d4vd, has made their first public statement following the shocking tragedy.

“She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend,” wrote GoFundMe organizers Esmeralda Lozano and Gisel Vera on a fundraising page established to assist with the costs of her funeral. “Her family is heartbroken and devastated by this tragic loss. They are seeking help to lay her body to rest. Any funds you are able to donate are greatly appreciated.”

The announcement comes one day after the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of the body found in the vehicle on September 8 as Rivas Hernandez. While her date of death is recorded as September 8, the official cause of death has been listed as “deferred,” indicating that additional investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to NBC News, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in California confirmed that Celeste Rivas Hernandez is the same juvenile who was reported missing from Lake Elsinore last year.

The sheriff’s office noted that the Los Angeles Police Department is now investigating the case as a homicide.

Authorities told KABC-TV that Rivas Hernandez’s body was discovered in the front trunk of a Tesla and had been wrapped inside a bag. The vehicle is registered in Hempstead, Texas, to 20-year-old singer d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

Officers responded to the scene on N. Mansfield Avenue after receiving a report of a foul odor emanating from a vehicle, which appeared to contain human remains.

According to FOX 11 Los Angeles, authorities believe the body had been placed in the Tesla’s trunk approximately five days before the vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The car had been reported abandoned in the Hollywood Hills, and neighbors told NBC Los Angeles that it had remained there for roughly a month.

A representative for the singer d4vd—currently on tour and known for hits such as Here with Me and Romantic Homicide—told NBC Los Angeles that the artist had been “informed about what’s happened” and is “fully cooperating with the authorities.”

As of September 18, police have not named any suspects or filed any charges in connection with the case. Authorities have also not released additional information regarding Rivas Hernandez or whether she had any connection to the singer.
